For Clinicians
What is the Hospital Elder Life Program? The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is a patient-care program, developed by Dr. Inouye and doctors and nurses at the Yale School of Medicine, that is designed to prevent delirium among hospitalized older patients. HELP does this by keeping hospitalized older people oriented to their surroundings, meeting their needs for nutrition, fluids, and sleep and keeping them mobile within the limitations of their physical condition. Key References This page contains a short list of "key" references on delirium and selected topics important in the hospitalization of older persons. References are organized by subject area. Bibliography We have created a searchable bibliography of over 500 references on delirium. These are articles that have been published in peer-reviewed journals and approach the issue of delirium from a variety of clinical perspectives. You may search the bibliography either by typing a term of your choosing in the "search" box, or by selecting a topic from the "pull down" menu. Where available, abstracts of the article are included. Copyright restrictions prevent our providing the full article, but most are available through medical libraries or through one of the electronic medical databases, such as Medline or Web of Science. Other Resources For information suitable for patients and families, you may refer to the Patient and Family Member section of this website. Any of this information can be downloaded and printed for sharing with your patients and their families. For general information on the Hospital Elder Life Program, you may refer to The HELP Program. |
